Russell Bowes came to our meeting and wowed us with his presentation on "The History of the Garden Through Art" it was really good. Russell was very well informed and extremely entertaining. What a fabulous talk, thank you Russell.
I was bowled over by our baskets! How very talented our ladies are, we now have a huge number of very festive baskets for our tombola stall at Deansfield School's Christmas fete, I am very excited.
Our Christmas meal is fast approaching, I'm sure we will have a fabulous time.
Merry Christmas and see you all in the New Year.
Judy Lyons
President

Orienteering at Trosley Country Park 17 June 2014
Our President, Judy Lyons with two WI members, Judith Ottley and Sally Seboa took part in an Orienteering Day and Judy wrote 'It was with some fear and trepidation, I am some what over weight and very unfit, that I agreed to join Judith and Sally for an afternoon of orienteering. To be honest I knew very little about the sport apart from it involving a map and compass but hey that's what the WI is all about, trying new things!
The weather was kind to us in that it was not too hot as we set off for Vigo Country Park. After a coffee, no cake we were being good, we joined a large group of WI ladies from all over West Kent. We each received a map and the dreaded compass. After some lengthy instruction we were split into groups with an instructor for a dummy run, not literally!
Our instructor allowed each of us to lead the group in turn. There was much debate at each marker, we all had different ideas about the direction in which we were to go. After much hilarity we made it to base and then horror of horrors we had to do a different course with different instructions in pairs!
After much discussion and turning the map in every way possible, I can proudly announce my partner and I completed the course albeit some what behind the majority of the group!
I confess I was puffed but I had great fun with a great group of ladies'
